Joy
is approx 2 years old (could be younger) and we believe could have a bit
of Collie in her. She was found in a Kabul dump scavenging for food as a
puppy. Many Muslim countries have little regard for dogs and treat them
like vermin however Joy was lucky enough to be picked up by someone who
did care and took her to the only rescue in the country where NOWZAD heard
of her plight. She was at the rescue for a year when it was decided
that she would be bought to the UK to be given a chance of a happy ending.
Most
NOWZAD dogs have homes lined up prior to quarantine as the majority of
dogs have been adopted in Afghanistan by Contractors or armed forces
personnel but as Joy was simply a stray she has no one. Joy currently has
5 months left in quarantine, she is now fully vaccinated and if not spayed
(still waiting to find out) will be prior to rehoming.
Due to
the fact that she spent a year in kennels prior to coming to the UK she is
suffering from fear aggression and this manifests as a snap warning,
running to the back of the kennels cowering and wetting herself. However,
she does come around and bonds very quickly. The kennels staff said it
took roughly 3 days before she allowed them to stroke her, now she goes to
them for cuddles and affection!
Joy will
need to go to a home that has experience with dogs that are nervous as she
will need careful socialisation in the outside world. She is OK with
other dogs as she lived with them in the Afghanistan Kennels but
she shouldn't be rehomed to people who have children or visiting young
children.
Ideally
we'd love to find someone living in the Surrey area to adopt her so that
over the coming few months they can start to bond with each other.
If you
feel you could give Joy her perfect forever home please contact
