As a controller of personal data under the Data Protection Act 2018, we process personal data in order to fulfil our charitable objects as registered with The Charity Commission. These objects are:

  • To protect dogs from ill treatment, cruelty and suffering, in particular by
    • (a) making grants to other charities with similar objects to the Foundation and
    • (b) making grants to persons
      • (i) who care for dogs which have previously been in the care of the Foundation, to assist with the cost of care of such dogs;
      • (ii) who have difficulty in meeting the cost of veterinary treatment for their dogs, to assist with such costs;
      • (iii) who for reasons of health or disability have difficulty in exercising their dogs, to assist with the cost of purchasing dog-walking services; and
      • (iv) for other purposes within the scope of the objects.

For the purpose of administrating and assessing applications for grants and financial assistance, we will collect and process grant application data including applicants’ personal contact details. We may collect and process data relating to the financial standing of applicants in order to assess eligibility for awards. In some cases we may also consider information received from third party organisations (such as local veterinary practices) to help us assess applications.

For audit purposes and in order to comply with financial and accounting regulations we will hold financial data relating to grant applications for up to seven years. For similar compliance reasons we will also hold financial data relating to any donations made to us by sponsors for up to seven years.

For the purpose of keeping people informed about our charitable activities through the issuing of our annual newsletter, and for the purpose of occasional related marketing activities, we will hold personal contact data on an electronic mailing list. We do not share personal contact or financial data with other organisations. We will keep our mailing list up-to-date and remove individuals from it if they notify us that they no longer wish us to have contact with them.

For the purpose of administration, planning and resourcing we will process personal data relating to our Trustees and volunteers, including personal contact data.
